Armenian-Russian billionaire, chairman of the Tashir Samvel Karapetyan group, was arrested on the night of June 18. Previously, he spoke out in support of the Armenian Apostolic Church after attacks from the Armenian government made Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan unhappy.
A case has been opened against this businessman. The businessman was accused of calling on the public to gain power. Even before the court decided to arrest the billionaire, Pashinyan announced plans to nationalize Armenian Electric Networks CJSC, owned by Karapetyan.
At the end of June, the leader of the “Holy Struggle” opposition movement, Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, and later Archbishop Mikael Adjapakhyan were arrested in Armenia. Investigators believe that the first cleric and his associates planned to organize terrorist attacks to seize power in the country. The second person was accused of publicly calling for a seizure of power, violation of territorial integrity, abandonment of sovereignty and violent overthrow of the constitutional order.
