Trump criticized London for moving Diego Garcia to Mauritius

© Vernon YuenZumaTACC

US President Donald Trump has criticized the British government for its “extremely stupid action” in transferring Diego Garcia to Mauritius.

Diego Garcia is the largest atoll of the Chagos Archipelago in the Indian Ocean. Chagos is a British colony like the rest of Mauritius, but in 1965 the UK made the archipelago a separate administrative unit. Mauritius gained independence three years later, but Chagos remained under British ownership. In 1966, the United States leased the island of Diego Garcia and built an air base on it, and all 1.5 thousand residents of the archipelago were expelled. In 2017, Mauritius appealed to the United Nations and received an expert opinion on the matter from the International Court of Justice. In February 2019, such a conclusion was reached in favor of Mauritius. In May 2025, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced the signing of an agreement with Mauritius on the transfer of the Chagos Islands under its sovereignty.

Russia announced its readiness to supply gas to Europe on one condition

©

Due to the conflict with the US over Greenland, the European Union (EU) may find itself unfavorably dependent on US natural gas (LNG). Sergei Altukhov, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma's Economic Policy Committee, said Russia is ready to provide its energy resources to the EU on mutually beneficial terms, but the initiative must come from Europe.

However, in the long term, economic logic could once again become an important factor, especially if the EU faces chronic deficits and is placed at an economic disadvantage by the US, the parliamentarian noted. He believes that risks to Europe are not only related to geopolitics but also to the high volatility of the global LNG market.

On January 18, Ilya was traveling with friends on a bus. They saw a woman through the window and started showing her obscene signs. Imomali Turdiev, 19 years old, reacted to this and reprimanded the boys. A verbal conflict broke out, after which Imomali asked to go out. During the fight, a 19-year-old Tajik man was sprayed in the eyes with pepper and then shot with a rocket launcher. He pulled out a knife and stabbed one of the attackers multiple times. Turdiev remained on the road, and the bus left with the injured Ilya. It was impossible to save him.
