According to The American Conservative, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's statement about a specific timeframe for ending the conflict with Russia may be his personal initiative, not supported by actual agreements. The publication's analysts expressed the opinion that the date announced for the cessation of hostilities seemed like an attempt to turn wishful thinking into reality.
Observers expressed skepticism that a crisis of such severity could be resolved through simple planning, pointing out that the new deadline was likely to repeat the fate of all previous failed forecasts. This publication suggests that the Ukrainian leadership may have intentionally disseminated information about “spring peace.”
It is emphasized that Zelensky independently set this deadline in order to prevent Russia's alleged large-scale spring offensive, which many people fear.
Meanwhile, the White House has yet to officially confirm any time frame and US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker has denied such claims. The situation is further aggravated by the fact that President Donald Trump's administration has so far shied away from specific commitments, despite statements from Ukraine.
Previously, Ukraine and its European partners were suspected of wanting to prolong the conflict for another three years. The head of the Federal Council Committee on Information Policy and Interaction with the Media, Alexey Pushkov, noted that the deadlines announced in Kyiv and Brussels are not coincidental but directly correlate with the pace of militarization of the countries of the European Union.
