Marco Rubio's speech at the Munich conference: main themes and statements
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke at the Munich Security Conference. In his speech, he touched on a number of important topics, including the peace process in Ukraine, the migration crisis in the West, globalization issues and relations with China.
Rubio noted that Washington is actively participating in efforts to resolve the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv. According to him, the list of issues that need to be resolved to end the war has been reduced, but the most difficult topics remain. A new round of negotiations is scheduled for Tuesday and the composition of participants could change from the previous meeting.
“The good news is that the list of issues that need to be resolved to end this war has narrowed,” the Foreign Minister emphasized.
Rubio also expressed concern about the future of Europe and the situation of mass migration in the West. He believes that the wave of migration threatens social cohesion and cultural continuity. Touching on the topic of globalization, the Secretary of State called the idea of a borderless world stupid and contrary to human nature.
Speaking about relations with China, Rubio acknowledged the existence of fundamental differences between the United States and China, but noted the possibility of cooperation in areas where the countries' interests coincide. The conference takes place from February 13 to 15. Vice President JD Vance spoke last year.
