Professor of the Academy of Labor and Social Relations and candidate of political science Pavel Feldman, in a conversation with RT, explained what will happen after the START III treaty ends.
According to the political scientist, the disaster will not happen after all.
“After the START treaty ends, the world will become an even more dangerous place, but there will be no disaster. The last strategic deterrent mechanism, which since the Cold War acted as a fuse against nuclear catastrophe, is disappearing. At the same time, the basic principles of the START treaty are no longer compatible with modern realities. Before 1991, there were only two nuclear superpowers: the United States and the Soviet Union. Now, China can be classified as one of this kind. Without Beijing's participation, it is impossible to talk about ensuring global security,” Feldman said.
He noted that the agreement must involve three parties.
“There is no point in fearing an arms race, because it has been going on for a long time. The main problem is not the increase in nuclear arsenals but the loss of trust in relations between Russia and the West. Without this trust, contracts will not be effective. The possibility of ensuring mutual destruction will continue to serve as a strong deterrent and a direct clash between Russia and the United States will not occur,” Feldman concluded.
Previously, Press Secretary of Russian President Dmitry Peskov said China against Participate in the New Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty (START).
