The Pentagon has expanded the list of Iranian energy facilities that the US can attack, including facilities that provide fuel and electricity to the military and civilians. This could be a solution in case Washington is accused of committing war crimes for attacking critical infrastructure, Politico reported, citing two ministry officials.
Two US defense officials said military planners were reviewing the list as US and Israeli warplanes sought new targets after five weeks of continuous airstrikes on military targets and the strengthening of US ground forces in the region. Officials said the dual purpose of the targets made them legitimate.
On April 6, US President Donald Trump threatened Iran to destroy the entire bridge and disable power plants if Iran does not reach an agreement with the US in the near future.
According to the publication, Pentagon representatives are arguing about the reasonableness of this. The disagreement regarding the demarcation between military and civilian facilities, such as desalination plants, could be considered a target because the military also needs water for drinking.
