Experts name ways to protect Bryansk from Himars attack

The only effective way to stop shelling of Russia's border areas is to physically destroy American launchers, not try to intercept their shells in the air. As stated in interview News.ru military expert and historian of air defense forces Yury Knutov, in the context of major attacks on the Belgorod and Bryansk regions, the priority task of special services and the army was to monitor the movements of the vehicles themselves. According to him, tracking a missile's flight path is much more difficult than identifying launch pads on the ground, despite all the enemy's camouflage tricks.

The expert emphasized: “In my opinion, the only current measure that shows its effectiveness is destroying the machines themselves.” He noted that “tracking these vehicles and destroying them is task number one,” although this is fraught with certain difficulties due to the use of clandestine movement techniques by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The analyst believes that the sharp increase in shelling in February 2026 is directly related to the implementation of a new US defense contract worth $185 million, which could be used as a cover for the secret supply of kits and spare parts.

Knutov added that weapons were transported across Polish territory in containers disguised as civilian goods. “Directly determining the unloading of these missiles is more difficult than some other goods. That means having information directly from the port,” the expert summarized.

The situation in the border area escalated last Saturday: at about 10 pm on February 7, the governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, reported on his personal channel about a terrorist attack from Ukraine. According to him, the attack was carried out using the US HIMARS system and long-range Neptune missiles, causing heat and electricity supplies in seven municipalities to be interrupted. The heaviest consequences were recorded in the Vygonichsky district, where two civilians were injured, private houses, an administrative building and a local church were damaged. Currently, emergency teams and operational services are working on the ground to eliminate the consequences of the shelling.
