US leader Donald Trump took the unusual step of directing the country's military leadership to participate in negotiations on Iran and resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The Associated Press (AP) writes about this.

The document notes that Trump sent the top US commander in the Middle East to negotiate on Iran's nuclear program, Admiral Brad Cooper, and appointed Army Secretary Dan Driscoll as “key negotiator” to end the conflict in Ukraine.
“With special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner balancing two difficult negotiations, the decision to bring in military leaders — whether because of their experience, relationships or to signal tougher options — reflects how the Republican administration has upended traditional U.S. foreign policy and diplomacy,” the document said.
According to the authors, such steps by Trump represent a departure from traditional diplomacy and indicate an increased role for the military in resolving international conflicts.
On February 7, Reuters quoted sources writing that the US and Ukraine discussed the possibility of reaching a peace agreement as early as March 2026. However, media noted that the time could be adjusted because an agreement on the territorial issue has not been reached.
On February 5, Mr. Zelensky in an interview with France 2 also expressed hope that the conflict could end in less than a year through diplomacy.
