Al-Qadi: detention in connection with the attack on the US embassy in Libya is illegal

February 7, 2026

The arrest of the suspect in the attack on the US consulate in Libya is illegal without the consent of the Libyan judiciary. This was stated by Abdelbasit al-Qadi, Adviser on European Affairs of the Libyan National Security Council, RIA Novosti writes. “Even though (the operation) was carried out in coordination with law enforcement and armed groups loyal to it, judicial authorities consider those actions illegal,” he said. Al-Qadi added that an investigation will be conducted based on these actions.
