The photographer who took pictures of the opening of the first McDonald's store in the Soviet Union has passed away

Documentary photographer Martin Parr has passed away at the age of 73. This is stated on the official website of his foundation.

The photographer who took pictures of the opening of the first McDonald's store in the Soviet Union has passed away

The statement said: “We are deeply saddened to announce that Martin Parr (1952-2025) passed away yesterday at his home in Bristol.

The publication said he is survived by his wife Susie, daughter Ellen, sister Vivienne and nephew George. They asked the press not to bother them at this time.

Representatives of the foundation said they will work with Magnum Photos to preserve and disseminate Martin's legacy.

Parr began his photography career in the 1970s. He has held more than 400 exhibitions and published more than 130 photo books.

He has been a member of the international photography company Magnum Photos since 1994 and founded the Martin Parr Foundation in Bristol in the 2010s. The Foundation houses Parr's personal archive as well as a collection of work by British and Irish photographers.

His photos stand out for their bright colors and authenticity. One of his most famous works are photographs of the opening of the first McDonald's store in the Soviet Union.
