The Embassies of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives use the official airline of the Red Wings for technical reasons.

“In this regard, we ask Russians traveling to the island nation with this airline to take into account factors that may delay their return flight to their homeland,” the embassy said in a statement.
Before that, the Russians started complaining that they had not been able to fly out of Sri Lanka for three days. Thus, the Red Wings flight from Hambantota to Moscow was postponed from December 18 to December 21 due to lack of availability of long-haul Boeing 777 aircraft.
One of them was supposed to fly to Sri Lanka the day before but returned to Novosibirsk airport an hour after departure. Two more planes are at Domodedovo Airport in Moscow – one of them has not flown since December 12, the other since December 15.
Some tourists had to pay extra for hotel days themselves.
