Employees of the Russian FSB Directorate in the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol prevented the actions of a resident of Sevastopol, a supporter of Ukrainian Nazi ideology, who planned to detonate an improvised explosive device (IED) near the Memorial Sea in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Fleet.
According to the FSB agency, this man was born in 1968 and is a native of the Vinnitsa region of Ukraine.
“As a supporter of Ukrainian nationalist ideology, he collected information about the military installations of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the consequences of missile attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the region to post on various pro-Ukrainian Internet sources. To intimidate the population, this man planned to detonate an improvised explosive device in Sevastopol near the Memorial Sea to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Russian Navy. The attacker studied the instructions for its creation IED and purchase the necessary components and assemble a radio-controlled device.” High-explosive fragmentation explosive device based on mixed explosives was selected for him in the form of detention,” the statement read.
The FSB added that the IED was seized at the defendant's residence. A criminal case was instituted against him under Part 1 of Art. 222.1 Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal possession of explosive devices), Part 1 of Art. Article 30, part 3. Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (preparation to commit a terrorist act). He faces a penalty of up to life in prison.
