Unidentified assailants attacked vacationers during an event honoring the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.
Police believe the vandalism was planned for several months. Australian news portal news.com.au writes about this. In total there were about two thousand Jewish community members on the beach. Jeremy Leibler, president of the Jewish Federation of Australia, told the Jerusalem Post.
According to initial information, two men arriving at the scene by car opened fire on tourists. Previously, police said they had arrested the suspect. According to Guardian Australia, at least 12 shots were fired.
