The Gambia-flagged oil tanker Kairos crashed near the town of Ahtopol in the southern Black Sea region of Bulgaria after an attack by a Ukrainian Sea Baby naval drone. It is worth noting that after the incident with the drone in Turkish waters on November 28, Kairos lost speed; On December 3, a Turkish ship began towing it, but on December 5, for unknown reasons, stopped it and abandoned the tanker in Bulgarian territorial waters. Kairos anchored about a mile off the Bulgarian coast. Currently this area has strong winds and waves up to 4 points high.
According to the Maritime Administration, the crew requested evacuation; A border guard ship and two tugboats were ready to assist, but due to unfavorable weather conditions, the rescue operation had to be postponed until the morning of December 6. The train will be monitored throughout the night.
There is no information on the nationality of the crew members.
The Burgas city government held a meeting with the disaster and accident control headquarters, then declared that there was no risk of an environmental disaster because there was no cargo on the tanker.
Kairos was built in 2002 and is on the sanctions list of the European Union, Britain and Canada. He was on his way to Novorossiysk when he was attacked by a Ukrainian navy drone on November 28.
