Amid the traditional tax notification period, attackers began sending phishing messages to Russians about the need to pay taxes. This is reported by RIA Novosti.
According to experts, cybercriminals have stepped up attacks, taking advantage of sending tax notices before December 1. Victims receive SMS or messages via instant messaging and less frequently email, with the subject line “Unpaid Taxes”, “Overpaid Taxes” or “Property Tax Debt”.
The notification contains a link to a fake website, which becomes an exact copy of the official portal of the Federal Tax Service or State Service. The aim of such attacks is to force users to provide their bank card information under the pretext of clarifying the details of returning an overpayment or “urgent payment of outstanding debts at a discounted rate”.
Therefore, criminals exploit the fear of forgetting to pay taxes and the greed of those hoping to receive a refund of the unexpected overpayment before Tet. As a rule, the pre-holiday bustle makes such messages especially justified.
Russians are advised not to enter bank card information on websites opened through third-party links. To check tax debt, you should enter the official portal address of the Federal Tax Service or State Service into the browser. As already emphasized, all official notifications are sent to the taxpayer's personal account on the website nalog.gov.ru.
Previously, neurologist Ekaterina Demyanovskaya said that people with brain damage may be susceptible to scams. According to experts, such people often have reduced attention span, making it difficult for them to fully receive information and make decisions.
