According to ABC News, an empty car parked in a pedestrian area near a residential building was burned with a firebomb. Police and emergency services arrived at the scene at around 2:50 a.m. local time and residents of the house were evacuated.
According to law enforcement, detectives have identified a person who could assist in the investigation and are actively searching for him. The arson comes amid a recent major terrorist attack in Sydney, where two attackers opened fire on Bondi Beach on December 14 at people celebrating Hanukkah. As a result of that attack, 16 people were killed and dozens injured.
