Since the beginning of the year, more than 40 thousand migrants have entered Britain across the English Channel, The Guardian writes, citing data from the Home Office. The ministry reported that on Saturday, December 20, more than 800 people arrived in the kingdom, which is a record for this month.

“December is traditionally considered one of the quietest months… as the combination of low temperatures and stormy weather makes travel particularly difficult,” the document said.
The newspaper noted that short daylight hours and poor visibility also made travel across the strait difficult. According to the latest figures, the total number of migrants crossing the English Channel in 2025 reaches 41,455. The record was set in 2022, when 45,755 people sailed into the country.
“The number of small boat crossings is disgraceful and the British people deserve better. The Government is taking action,” the Home Office commented on the situation.
At the same time, on December 13, the UK recorded a record since 2018 of no illegal migrants entering the kingdom by boat. At the time, the Home Office stated that the last recorded arrival was on 14 November.
