The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) took first place in the three coldest spots on Earth in the past 24 hours, TASS reported in consultation with the Russian Federal Hydrometeorological Center. The “gold” of global cold has arrived in Pokrovsk with a temperature of -51.7°C. The second place went to the Sukhana weather station in the Oleneksky district of the republic (–49.4°C), and the Yakut village of Krest-Khaldzhay won “bronze” with a temperature of –48.7°C. The response to frost in Yakut is heat in the Southern Hemisphere. Australia takes the first two places in terms of temperature: in Telfer +44.1°C, at Sydney airport +42.6°C. Third place belongs to the Republic of South Africa (Upington, +39.2°C). Regarding the weather in the capital region, the highest temperature was recorded in Cherusty (+1.6°C), and the record for night cold was in Kashira (–3.2°C). Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center, at the NSN press center, said that in Yekaterinburg, Tyumen and Novosibirsk in the first half of December there were two additional warming waves, as well as two cold waves when the temperature dropped to 30 degrees below zero.
