The game Codex Mortis, created entirely with artificial intelligence (AI), has appeared on Steam. According to its author, who speaks on Reddit under the moniker Crunchfest3, development took about three months, during which he used the Claude Code neural network in his spare time from his main job.

The project was originally built on an Entity Component System (ECS) architecture instead of traditional object-oriented programming. The game is written in TypeScript using the PIXI.js library for rendering and the bitECS framework, and Electron was used to release the desktop version.
In the story, the player takes on the role of a necromancer. As stated in the Steam description, not only the code is generated with the help of AI but also all the text, art materials, sounds and music. The developer notes that the biggest difficulties were due to maintaining a unified visual style and integrating Steam functions into its own “engine”. Character animation is done via shaders instead of standard frame-by-frame graphics.
Community reaction to the project was mixed. Some users see this approach as an opportunity for novice developers to implement their ideas without deep technical knowledge. Others criticized the game for lacking creativity and integrity.
The project is available on the Steam store.
