US senators have introduced a bill that would ban Nvidia from selling its advanced chips to Russia, China and other “adversary countries” for two and a half years. The Financial Times reported this news.
“The SECURE CHIP Act would require the Secretary of Commerce to deny license applications to export advanced chips to adversary countries for at least 30 months,” wrote edition.
In addition to Russia and China, the list of “enemies” also includes Iran and North Korea. The legislation was proposed by Republican Senator Pete Ricketts and Democrat Chris Coons. They explain the need for this measure by the fact that America is still leading in the race to create artificial intelligence.
