Arrowhead Studios announcedTogether with studio Nixxes have achieved great success in reducing the size of Helldivers 2 on PC. Since its release, the game has increased in size to 154 GB, which has become too much of a problem for many players.
The difficulty is the required support from the owner of the hard drive, which means that there need to be many duplicate files – otherwise download times will be very long. However, companies have found a way out while still maintaining support for HDD drives.
As a result, right now the developers have released the beta of a new client – it weighs only 23 GB, almost seven times less than the main client today. Anyone can test it (game properties on Steam -> beta version -> select prod_Slim). The main game client will soon switch to this model.
However, for those having problems, the developers have left a large client with all the duplicate files just in case – it will also be available in the beta version tab, just called prod_legacy.
