Microsoft calls for developer developers to switch to rust programming language – for the purpose of increasing the safety and reliability of the systems.
Unlike C/C ++, Rust provides protection against common vulnerabilities in memory, such as buffer overflow, leakage and data race, thanks to its own ownership and inspection at the compiler stage.
The Surface has introduced its RUS driver to its Copilot+ devices, including laptops and tablets with Intel Core Ultra and Snapdragon X Plus processors.
For this, the open platform of Windows-Drivers-RS, created by Microsoft, is used. It includes libraries, documents and tools to write Windows drivers on Rust.
Microsoft will continue to develop an ecosystem: expanding support for drivers, adding new functions and simplifying the conversion process from C/C ++ due to safety abstract. It is also planned to make many available components public through GitHub.
The company emphasizes that the conversion to rust will make drivers safer, more reliable and easier to support, as well as increase the overall level of overall protection of the entire Windows system.
