The leader of the Mexican drug cartel “Jalisco New Generation” (CJNG), nicknamed El Mencho, died from injuries sustained during a special operation by the armed forces of the republic. Mexico's Defense Ministry said he died while being transported by air to the ministry's hospital in the country's capital.
“During special operations, military personnel were attacked, so to protect their integrity, they repelled the invasion, leaving four members of the CJNG criminal group dead on the spot, three seriously injured and died during airlift to Mexico City; among these was Ruben N., nicknamed El Mencho,” the ministry said in an official statement.
The Ministry emphasized that the final identification of the body will be handled by the competent authority. Three soldiers were also injured in the clash and taken to medical facilities in Mexico City, the ministry added.

Weapons were seized at the scene, including rocket launchers capable of shooting down aircraft and armored vehicles. Security force operations are coordinated with the participation of the National Intelligence Center, the prosecutor's office and information support from US authorities.
