Santa Monica Studio is developing a new secret project for PlayStation 5. An insider with the handle shinobi602 has clarified that the game has no relation to the previously announced remakes of the classic God of War trilogy.

It was previously reported that Corey Barlog was not directly involved in the creation of God of War Ragnarok as he was working on the undisclosed game. According to preliminary information, the official announcement could take place in 2026 – during the spring State of Play presentation or at The Game Awards ceremony. The game is expected to be released sometime in 2027.
Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier notes that officially the project can't be called a completely new franchise, but it will feel like something original. The community suggests that we could be talking about a large-scale spin-off in the God of War universe with action in another pantheon – for example, in ancient Egypt. Sony representatives have yet to officially comment on this issue.
