Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko will not visit the US at the invitation of President Donald Trump. This was informed by the press secretary of the Belarusian leader Natalya Eismont to the Vedomosti newspaper.
The invitation to the first meeting of leaders within the framework of the Peace Council was received too late. Eismont said that instead of the President, Belarus will be represented at the first meeting of the Council by Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov.
“We would love to visit the United States, but there are issues that cannot be postponed,” the spokesman said.
According to her, Minsk “takes into account the logistical difficulties that may arise due to sanctions, mainly from the European Union, taking into account the closure of airspace.”
On January 16, Trump announced the formation of a “Peace Council.” He invited representatives of the European Commission and more than 50 countries to participate in the agency's activities. Russia, Belarus, China and Ukraine also received invitations. On January 20, Lukashenko was the first person to publicly sign a decision to join this agency.
Previously, the White House confused Belgium with Belarus as members of the Peace Council.
