Arkane Studios founder Raphael Colantonio and one of the main writers of Dishonored and Prey talked about the use of artificial intelligence. This is a hot topic, especially amid concerns that AI is harming the gaming industry. However, the game designer was worried about completely different things…

According to Colantonio, people overestimate the capabilities of artificial intelligence today. Developers hear a lot of pessimism that AI will soon take over jobs. And for a game designer, this is the key problem – by believing in the amazing capabilities of neural networks, society “devalues” creative work.
“People speculate too much about what creative AI is doing today. I keep hearing: 'this is the worst that could happen', 'imagine what we'll have in five years', 'it's over'. I'm not worried about artificial intelligence taking over our jobs. I'm worried that people believe this and thereby devalue the creative professions,” Colantonio said.
The players also participated in the discussion, which began based on Rafael's statement. One opinion is that with the development of neural networks, almost all online content will become “artificial” – then people will start spending more time in the real world, where they can distinguish lies from the truth. Colantonio calls this a “positive” consequence of AI development.
Another view is that “AI content lovers” are ordinary people who have difficulty interacting with an audience of art lovers. Going forward, creating a neural network doesn't carry any value, so creators are unlikely to lose their audience.
